Schwarzkopf Live Colour – Shake it up Colour Foam

Hello!

Here’s another hair product.  So, the last hair product didn’t work for me and my regrowth is still obvious.  It is now time to re-colour my hair.  This time, I’m going dark, dark brown to be precise.  With hair dyeing, you do have to take turns with darks and lights to ensure there is an even application.  The last time I went light, and went light again, my regrowth was not properly coloured because the regrowth is much darker.

Now, on with the product.  This hair product comes in something similar to a mini Slurpee cup/frozen coke cup, there is a plastic cup with a plastic half round cover.  (Very different compared to other hair dye products!)  Weird though that the cover is only sticky-taped to the cup so that it is kept close.  This product comes in 2 parts, the developer lotion and the colour powder.  It also comes with a set of instructions (in English and Thai), a pair of gloves and a sachet of conditioner.

To get the product ready, it is easy enough to first pour the developer lotion into the cup and then add the colour powder.  You then shake it 40 times and the product magically becomes foam!  Here are the downsides.  Firstly, when I first pour the developer lotion into the cup, there is a strong grape/fruity flavour.  The clear fluid with fruity scent can be very deceiving to the little humans, so be aware and ensure that you do not casually leave this on the table and run to answer the phone (especially since the developer lotion is in a look-a-like cup with pretty colours!).   Another downside would be the shaking.  Even after shaking the cup for more than 40 times over a minute and a half, the colour powder was not totally dissolved.  You also can’t tell if all the powder is dissolved under the foam.  The undissolved powder was very inconvenient for colour application because the colour powder would just stick to the hair and it is impossible to spread the colour.  Also, when the wet powder touches your skin, it is almost impossible to get off!!!!  I’ve got some on my scalp, forehead, ears and back of the neck.  I’ve been scrubbing and scrubbing to get it off but to no avail. 🙁

After leaving the product on for about half hour, I decided to wash it off because I did not want the powder to stain my skin any longer.  I was under the shower for half an hour but the water still did not run clear.   My hair was also extremely matte and disgustingly dry.  The conditioner provided is definitely not enough to get my hair conditioned.   The colour I chose was Dark Espresso (dark brown colour).  I felt that my hair turned out black but maybe with a little brown tinge (you can be the judge of that with the pics below).

Onwards with the piccies!

Conclusion:

I would not buy this product again.  The application was very difficult (as opposed to the ads) and the undissolved powder stained my skin quite a bit.

Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse Permanent Hair colour

Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse Permanent Hair Colour

Most times, a change of hair colour can change your whole look.  For me, it just gives me something slightly different for my hair.  I personally do not dye my hair very often because I believe it dries out the hair and the chemicals are really  not good for you.

I recently decided to change my look so, I decided to dye my hair.  I popped into a random pharmacy to buy a hair dye kit.  Perfect Mousse caught my eye because it was on sale and it was foam!  Well, foam has been out for awhile now and more and more companies are producing it.  This product was also nominated “InStyle Winner 2011 Best Beauty Buy”.   I bought the dark blonde colour as I’m not as brave to go too light!

Application with foam is much easier than the normal liquid hair dye.  It does not drip everywhere and is definitely easier to work into the hair.  I do have two sensitive areas on my scalp which is prone to eczema and this product did sting those areas.  The stinging did go away after awhile, though.  (please note that it is important to follow instructions included with the product and do a spot test).

I’ve used this product twice in the past 5 months.  After washing off the product from my hair (during the second time of using this hair dye), I noticed that my hair was much drier, rougher and just felt like a massive dreadlock.  This is when you should use the hair conditioner they provide with the hair dye.  The instructions state to leave it in your hair for 2 minutes.  I left it in my hair for longer and after washing that off, I conditioned it with more conditioner.

The end product, the hair colour is superb.  I’ve received compliments that it was done professionally and it looks like I have highlights in my hair.  I have black-brown hair and dying it with this dark blonde colour just makes it slightly lighter.  I have to warn you though, dying it again with the same colour does not really cover up the re-growth.

Conclusion:

I would buy this product again but I do want to try other products which contains less chemicals.

Where to buy:

Woolworths, Coles, any pharmacy

Price:

AUD$16.99 per box (advisable to shop around or wait till sale period as it can go as low as AUD$11)

Schwarzkopf Oil Nutritive Anti-Split Ends Serum

Schwarzkopf Oil Nutritive Anti-Split Ends Serum

This serum claims to have 7 nourishing oils and give up to 100% less split ends.  This serum also claims to seals the hair tips.

I apply this product after I towel-dry my hair at night.  I usually use about 5-7 pumps of this product and rub it into my hair, usually at the middle to bottom ends of the hair.  I particularly focus at the end of the hair strands, where the tip usually start to split. Upon application, the feeling is slightly sticky.  Once it dries, my hair does feel silkier and smoother once the hair is dry.  The hair also does not have as much frizz.  I love this product because of the smell of it.  It does have a very strong smell, and the smell lasts the night (I apply this product at night, as I wash my hair at night) and till the middle of the next day.   Does it really decrease split ends by up to 100%?  I personally cannot confirm if it does decrease it by 100% because split ends all depends on external factors, like how often you wash your hair, the type of shampoo, the weather.   Although so, it did decrease my split ends a little (definitely not by 100%).

Handy tip: One thing to note about split ends, you can only condition your hair as much as possible to keep it from splitting but once it has split, the only way to fix it is to snip it.

Conclusion:

I like how my hair feels smoother and silkier after using this product.  It also helps tame the frizz.  I will buy this product again only if it were on sale.
