Alpha-H Balancing and Pore Refining Mask with Jojoba Oil

How many times a week do you use a mask?  I wear a mask once a week – Alpha-H mask is the one I go to.

Recently, my skin has been bouncing from really oily to really dry because of the acne medication.  On days that it is extremely oily, I like to use this mask.  I feel that the white clay in the mask clears the oil and gunk off my face and makes it more balanced.   It definitely felt that way when after using it, I had 2 tiny spots which were “drawn out”.  There was also another instance when after I used it, my giant spot became half the size.

Immediately after applying the mask, there is a tingly sensation.  If you are not used to this feeling, it might be a little uncomfortable.  I actually like this tingly feeling as it makes me feel as though the mask is working.  As the mask dries, the tingly sensation goes away.  After 10 minutes, the mask should be completely dry, crusty and cracks when you try and move your face.

The instructions say to remove using a damp cloth but I usually remove it by rinsing my face with lukewarm water.  The skin on my face does not feel like it’s too tight after using this mask.  In fact, it feels absolutely clean and refreshed!

Ingredients are: Aqua, Kaolin, Bentonite, Glycerine, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Zea Mays Starch, Zinc Oxide, Fucus Vesiculosus Extract, Lavandula Angustifolio Oil, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Caprylyl Glycol, Retinyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Olea Europaea Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Linalool, D-limonene.

Nail of the Day – OPI Don’t Touch my Tutu and Pirouette My Whistle

Another week, another Monday, another Monday Manicure!

Today I bring to you a combo from the New York City Ballet mini collection.  Don’t Touch My Tutu is a sheer milky white nail colour.  Application of this nail polish can be very streaky and you will have to be careful with application.  I put two coats of this nail polish but you can still slightly see the nail.  I then finished this nail polish with Pirouette My Whistle which is a clear nail polish with some glitter.

OPI Pirouette My Whistle

Conclusion:

The colour in the bottle for Don’t Touch My Tutu is not really what you get.  It takes a couple of coats of application before you get the milky white colour in the bottle.  I did like Pirouette My Whistle, it gives just enough glitter that is not over the top.

Price:

New York City Ballet Petites for AUD$24.95

Where to buy:

Most nail salons and David Jones.

Would you get this mini collection?

Nail of the Day – Orly Coffee Break

Another Monday has rolled around and it’s time to introduce another nail polish – Orly’s Coffee Break.. This is one that I can foresee using quite often.

I bought this nail polish quite some time ago but have been staying away from it because I thought it was too much of a “dull” nude.  With all the rain/stormy weather from the week before, I was leaning more towards a subtle colour.  Lo and behold, this nail polish has surprised me.  The nude colour is a beautiful nude colour, almost similar to OPI Dulce De Leche.  The OPI nail colour has a little bit more pink in it while this Orly nail polish has a little more brown in it.  For my skin tone, this colour very suitable and gives a great nude finish – definitely brings a little something.  It’s also great for weddings or formal events.

Application of this nail polish is smooth and not streaky.  One coat is sufficient to get enough of a light nude colour.  The 2nd coat gives the same colour as in the bottle, a brown nude.

Conclusion:

The pigmentation of this nail polish is fantastic.  Application is smooth and easy.  Great nail polish for a formal event.

Price:

AUD$18.95 for 18ml

Where to buy:

There are a few places that stock this brand (have seen it in a pharmacy) but the best place to buy it is online.

What’s your favourite nude nail polish?

TheBalm Nude Tude Palette

I’ve been doing a couple of looks using TheBalm’s Nude Tude Eyeshadow Palette.  Here are a few: Eyeliner Art look and the Summer look I’ve been loving this palette as it has a couple of matte and shimmer eyeshadows.  All the colours are in the Nude range – browns/pinks (with one yellow/gold eyeshadow).  Pigmentation of the eyeshadows in this palette is fantastic, although it does become powdery when you dip your brush into it.   This can get a little annoying as it can make your palette quite messy (you’ll see from the picture below).   You can do a daytime look and build on top of that and create a night time look. I lean more towards the shimmers because I have got monolids.  Monolids can tend to look a bit “flat” and shimmers help with creating a bit more dimension than matte eyeshadows.

The names for the eyeshadows are fantastic.  I think the names for all the products from this brand are pretty cool.  It’s definitely different to the usual “Raspberry colour” or “Shocking Pink” .  This palette comes with a brush which, I must say is pretty useless.  I do not like the brush at all and feels quite “plastic”.  There is a nice big mirror that comes with this palette, which is awesome for looking at yourself! (LOL! what else would you do with a mirror!)

Swatches on my hand was with only one swipe. Also note the eyeshadow has “spilled” all over the palette

Conclusion:

I love this palette!  This palette can pull of a day look and a night look.  Currently, it is my go-to palette for most of my looks. Comparatively to Urban Decay, this eyeshadow palette is slightly more expensive (Urban Decay comes with 1.3g for each eyeshadow while the eyeshadow in this palette is roughly 0.92g each).

Price:

AUD$49.95

I bought this online, direct from the US website but you can buy this from David Jones

Nail of the Day – Nails Inc Bling it on Feathers

Manicure Monday! I was on holidays and went past Sephora.. I mean, who can walk past Sephora without browsing??? Today I bring to you…

Nails Inc. London BLING IT ON Feathers!

When I saw this on the shelves, I had to have it..the bling was just calling my name.  The final look of this nail polish is excellent, with a lot of bling and shine.  This nail polish is excellent for a night out in town.  Application wise, it can get quite messy.  If you don’t mind the mess, it is very quick to apply.  There can also be a lot of wastage if you are messy.  The finishing texture can be a little difficult to get used to.  Even after 2 layers of top coat, the rough texture from the “feathers” still peak through.  It can get quite annoying especially if you’re using cotton pads or tissues and it gets caught on the nail texture.  This nail texture is quite rough and it’s probably not a good idea to have this if you intend to pop your zits (I do not recommend you do!) or around newborn children.   The only reason why I’m saying newborns in particular is because I’ve been exposed to a lot of newborns lately!

Application instructions given:

  1. Pour a small amount of “feathers” on the plastic tray provided to have it ready to go
  2. Paint one coat of the colour on your nails
  3. Before the colour dries, dip and roll your nail on the “feathers” on the plastic tray
  4. Using the brush provided, sweep off the loose “feathers'”
  5. Seal it with the top coat provided

Conclusion:

If you don’t mind the mess, alternatively, if you have the patience, this nail polish can deliver the bling you need!  I would probably only wear this for the night I need it and then remove it because I’m definitely not used to the texture!

Price:

roughly MYR 120 (approx. AUD$40)
